Happy New Year!!
We entered Panera Bread Company in River City to a beautifully decorated table filled with Valentine themed items for our book club meeting to discuss Ayana Mathis' debut novel, "The Twelve Tribes of Hattie" hosted by Ann
We were all anxious to express our views on Oprah's 2.0 book club selection and to discuss the various topics and themes of the book.
Ann began the meeting with a prayer and passed out a stapled booklet of questions and other information for us to review.
As the Panera staff passed out Red Velvet Cup Cakes for us to sample, we focused on the "exploding" themes of dysfunctional families as well as childhood physicial and sexual abuse.
The book seemed to be "all over the place" and the interjection of war and political strife seemed "ill placed."
During our discussion, we all seemed to development a clearer understanding of the author's direction that "peaked" Oprah's interest, yet we were all still slightly dismayed at her selecting this read for her book club.
At the end of our meeting, Ann presented U.S. G.I.R.L.S. and guests with hand-made Valentine Earrings that were created and designed by her sister, Vickye as well as a heart shaped box of chocolates.
Ann also provided information about Women and heart health for "Take It To Heart" month.
Thank you, Ann for a beautiful meeting at River City Marketplace
