Ka Saundra made reservations for U.S. G.I.R.L.S. at American Grill, Jacksonville Landing. We were seated on the outside Lanai with the breeze blowing, overlooking the St. John's River. Simply put, "it was breathtaking!" The location, atmosphere, and ambiance, could not have been more "perfect" for the discussion of The Loom, by Shella Gillus.
Ka Saundra really set the tone for the gathering with a colorful pastel "Easter/Spring" theme. The tables were decorated with pink tablecloths, and the most adorable Easter chocolate party favors, cleverly camouflaged in painted ceramic flower pots. Once the candy is consumed, we can cherish the memories of this meeting with a living plant or flower. This gesture in itself is symbolic of U.S. G.I.R.L.S., and how we can grow through our literary commitment (now, that is deep).
Ka Saundra really came up with some insightful questions that generated a lot of "buzz" as well as some "side bars" at our meeting. The Loom is a complex piece of literature, however it was no match for U.S. G.I.R.L.S. We extrapolated, dissected and digested every aspect of this novel. We also uncovered several uses of symbolism, imagery and biblical analogies. Ka Saundra allowed us to flow through the questions with precision, affording each member the opportunity to express her point(s) of view.
What an awesome hostess, for an awesome book club meeting!! Well done, Ka Saundra....U.S. G.I.R.L.S. say, "Thank You!" Valerie's guest, Maria has joined U.S. G.I.R.L.S. Maria has completed her due diligence by becoming familiar with our by-laws, and we look forward to loading her bio and photo on our website. "WELCOME, MARIA!!"
Celeste has agreed to host the next meeting: We will be taking a group photo for submission to "The Book Club Show" at this meeting... U.S.G.I.R.L.S. are reminded to visit amazon.com to submit a review of "The Loom" as well as previous and future book club selections.
