The Darkest Child

Updated: Jan 9, 2021

Karen hosted our first book club dinner at Lighthouse Grille and it was a success!! The food, the ambiance and the book discussion of Delores Phillips', The Darkest Child, were great. In attendance were: Karen, Jennie, Valerie, Ardee "Dee" and Sheryl

Karen, opened the meeting with the following agenda to create a name and develop by-laws:

Once we completed the business portion, we began our "talk" about the book: The Darkest Child was an excellent read and even if you didn’t attend the meeting, don’t miss reading this book !

Since the holidays are so close upon us, we thought that we should have a holiday meeting on either November 20 or December 11 at the River City Brewing Company (http://www.rivercitybrewingco.com). Pleas email Karen immediately with the date that is best for you. At the meeting we can have a holiday "book exchange" with the book club members at the end of the dinner (where we each bring a wrapped, unmarked book).

We have not yet come up with a name, so please bring your name ideas to the Holiday meeting!!

Our next book selection is: CHURCH FOLK by Michele Andrea Bowen

Theophilus Henry Simmons is young, single, sexy, and just about the finest black man any wishful mother and daughter have ever seen in Charleston, Mississippi. He's also a pastor. And when he starts courting the quiet, homespun Essie Lee Lane-and she accepts his marriage proposal-a few of the church folk decide to teach Essie what it really means to be a pastor's wife, and show her how little she knows about them. But as Theophilus gains prominence in his denomination, Essie evolves from a mousy parishioner into an independent and Godly woman. Now sporting an afro and driving her new purple Cadillac, Essie teaches the church folk what it really means to stand by your man-and your beliefs.
